Seth:
1. Seth came from thoroughly warping the word "seven". I wish I was kidding.
2. I wanted at the time to create a male counterpart to my character Figment (who in turn evolved into Dr Vention).
3. Seth started out as an inter-dimensional being who was more or less functionally retarded. I then had to write a short story for my high school English class that involved robots, so I warped my characters accordingly. I then became to attached to the story that it's the only one I have any serious ambitions for.
4. He has a hard time differentiating between family love and romantic love, which often leads to awkward situations.

Eric:
1. He's named after Magneto C:
2. WAY WAY WAY back in the day when I was really into X-Men: Evolution, I created all these OCs that were childen of Rogue from various possible futures. In his early existence Eric was spawned from Rogue and Quicksilver. Why yes, I do know how lame I am.
3. Eric started out as a brooding emo teenager who was kind of a rip-off from a throwaway Exiles character. As I got older and matured, so did he. He eventually evolved into the happy-go-lucky ~*playwrite*~ we see today.
4. The one play Eric actually wrote is a horribly written account of his best friend's affair with their economics teacher.

Mikhail:
1. He originally started out as Michael, and in fact most of the shit about him I have posted still uses that name. However, after a long time of poking the name 'Mikhail' around, I finally changed it and it's so much better.
2. He was also an X-Men: Evolution OC, originally the son of Piotr and Kitty.
3. Like Eric, he started out as a brooding emo boy, but as I branched away from fanfiction, I re-worked Mikhail into a talkative, gay hipster who works in a bookstore because he's too afraid to actually try to get a job in an artistic field.
4. Mikhail actually doesn't think Eric's play is all that bad, but he's so embarrassed by the subject matter that he'd never say so.

Dr Silvia Vention:
1. There once was a time when I though Sylvia was the single coolest to ever exist. Ever. Now I actually kind of hate it. I changed it to Silvia because Y's in place of I's are stupid, I don't care if that's the proper spelling. Originally her last name was Thorn, but after I smartened up and realized how dumb that was I chaned it to Vention. The name Vention is shamelessly inspired by The Venture Bros. You see, they have adventures and she makes inventions, GET IT?
2. She was my self-insert mary sue, ngl.
3. She started out a fairy princess, then became an X-man, then became and inter-dimensional being by the name of Figment. Then that legendary English class robot story came along and now she's a crazy robotics engineer. Good times.
4. She hates thinking about religion. A lot.

That's it. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, it's not a flaming disaster, it's just... ok.

Actually? No. I'm being generous by calling it ok. The action sequences are unbelievably over the top, the dialog is atrocious and the story is muddled and confusing. Whole scenes and characters are completely unnecessary and add NOTHING to the plot or story.

Two prime examples of that are Kayla and Gambit.

....who the FUCK is Kayla? Apparently, she is Emma Frost's sister. LOL DID YOU PEOPLE READ THE COMICS? Yes, Emma Frost has sisters, two of them in fact, but neither of them care enough about her to save her from a mutant concentration camp. They HATE her. SHE RUINED THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THEY RUINED HERS (it's complicated). I don't understand why they had to make a new character up for Jimmy/James/Logan/Wolverine's love interest. He has had plenty of love interests in canon. They couldn't just... pick one? Or even better, they could have just used Emma Frost. Emma Frost is a bad ass motherfucker. You don't even have to read the comics to know that. You just have to look at one of her covers.
That's one of the great things about X-men; strong female characters. X-men is an allegory for the oppressed. Who're oppressed? Women. Hence the strong female characters. BUT NO. They couldn't use one of the many strong, well-developed female characters they had to choose from. They had to make up a personality-deprived, throw-away bimbo to be used and abused.

Then again, even if they did use a canon character they probably would have fucked her up, like they did Gambit.

I don't even know where to start with Gambit.

Bad actor.
Bad lines.
Badly addressed powers.
Bad handling in general.

Well, maybe his actor wasn't so bad. I know that he wasn't the one I wanted (Josh Holloway), but I was willing to give him a chance. Unfortunately the script was not. Gambit doesn't really do anything. I mean, yeah, he has some cool fight scenes, but that's about it. He doesn't say much, and only seems to have three emotions, all of which seem to be mild; mild amusement, mild irritation and mild confusion. You never really know why he does things. Why did he save Victor in that one fight scene? Why did he agree to take Jimmy/James/Logan/Wolverine to the Island (because Logan will kill everyone Remy hates in the world? How does Logan know who Remy hates? Or even if he wants them dead? Will we ever know? Probably not. That would give characters DEAPTH, and we wouldn't want THAT.)? Why did Gambit come back to the island to save him? WHY? What is his motivation for doing ANYTHING? Tip for writers: when characters DO THINGS they have to have REASONS for it.

Also, his powers.

What the fuck? What is it that movie!Gambit can do, exactly? Make shit explode is, I GUESS, the bare bones of it. And make cards fly around. Or something. That's the bare bones of it, but it seems so much more complicated that. It's so different from the comics that I don't really know what to think. I just... don't get it.

I don't get a lot of things. I don't get why they ignored their own established canon (Wolverine blocks Scott's beam with his claws for a good 45 seconds. THAT'S NOT HOW THAT WORKS.) I don't get why Kayla told Logan her "Moon and the Wolverine" story. I don't get why they they would make adamantium bullets. THAT IS A WASTE OF ADAMANTIUM. Or even how they magically erase memories. DID ANYONE THINK THIS THROUGH? ANYONE?

The whole movie is just one big ridiculous effort to be badass, but most of the things just end up being unnecessary; unnecessary CGI (planes, hills, PATRICK STUART), unnecessary fights, and even unnecessary YEARS GO BY.

This movie ITSELF was unnecessary. We didn't NEED a Wolverine movie. The three X-men movies were all about Wolverine anyway. I don't even really know what the point of telling his whole story in a single movie is. It just removes the mystery for future movies.

The problem with this movie is the same thing that was wrong with the third X-men film. The first two had such wonderful subtleties to them. Everything from the relationships to the motivations were deep and intricate, and you understood them without them being shoved in your face. X-men: the Last Stand got rid of that completely. Everything that was deep and subtle in the first two became shallow and obnoxious, and they did the same thing in this movie.

However, even though I have so many problems with it, I still want this movie to be successful. Why? Because if this movie makes a shit ton of money, a MAGNETO movie will be made.

Think about that.

MAGNETO.
MOVIE.

You know you want it.

I get all tingly just thinking about it.

So go see this movie. It's entertaining, and will fund MAGNETO.
